Step 1: Find the right card
Start with search. You can search by card name, set or number and narrow the results with filters:
- Game and category (for example Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, hockey cards)
- Set and language
- Condition, see Condition guide
- Grading (company and grade), see Grading guide
- Sale type: auction or Buy Now
- Price and shipping method, free shipping or pickup
- Location (region), if you want to pick the card up nearby
Open the listing and study the photos, description, condition and shipping options. Check the seller's feedback as well. If anything is unclear, ask the seller before you bid.
Step 2: Auctions
In an auction, the buyer with the highest bid wins when the time runs out. The listing shows the current price, the number of bids, the time left and the lowest acceptable next bid.
To bid you must be logged in and your account's email address must be verified. The first bid may equal the starting price.
A bid is binding. When you place a bid, you commit to buying the card if you win. Only bid if you are prepared to pay the price. A bid cannot be retracted, see Terms of Service.
Maximum bid and automatic bidding
You can place a maximum bid, the highest amount you are willing to pay. The Service bids on your behalf only as much as is needed to keep you in the lead. Your maximum is not shown to others.
Example. The auction starts at €10 and the bid increment is €1.
| Step | Event | Price shown | Leading |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aino places a maximum bid of €30 | €10 | Aino |
| 2 | Ben places a maximum bid of €20 | €21 | Aino |
| 3 | Cecilia places a maximum bid of €25 | €26 | Aino |
| 4 | Ben places a new maximum bid of €40 | €31 | Ben |
| 5 | Nobody bids further, the auction ends | €31 | Ben wins at €31 |
Note step 4: Ben's maximum is €40, but he pays only €31, which is Aino's maximum (€30) plus one increment. The winner does not pay their maximum, only what the second-highest bid requires.
The rules in brief:
- The price shown is the second-highest maximum plus one bid increment, but never more than the leader's maximum.
- If two maximums are equal, the earlier bid wins.
- When a maximum reaches the reserve price, the price jumps to the reserve price.
If your maximum is exceeded you will be notified and can bid again.
Bid increments
With each bid, the price must rise by at least one bid increment. The size of the increment depends on the current price: the higher the price, the larger the increment. The listing always shows the lowest acceptable next bid.
By default the bid increments are as follows. The administrators can change them, and the exact rules are shown on each listing page.
| Current price | Bid increment |
|---|---|
| Under €10 | €0.50 |
| €10–49.99 | €1 |
| €50–199.99 | €2 |
| €200–499.99 | €5 |
| €500–999.99 | €10 |
| €1,000–4,999.99 | €25 |
| €5,000 and above | €50 |
Reserve price
A seller may set a reserve price for an auction, the lowest price the seller is willing to sell at. The reserve is not shown, but the listing tells you whether it has been met. When a maximum bid reaches the reserve price, the auction price jumps to the reserve price.
- If the reserve is met, the seller must sell the card to the winner.
- If the reserve is not met, no sale is made and neither party is bound.
Anti-snipe extension
So that an auction cannot be won by a surprise bid in the last second, there is an extension: if a bid that changes the price or the leader is placed when less than two minutes remain, the end time becomes the time of the bid + 2 minutes. The end time is therefore not simply the original end plus two minutes. The extension can repeat many times until no bids arrive in the final two minutes. By default there is no limit on the number of extensions.
If the leading bidder only raises their own maximum bid, the auction is not extended. The listing page shows when an auction has been extended.
Example timeline. The auction was originally due to end at 20:00:00.
| Time | Event | End time |
|---|---|---|
| 19:50:00 | A bid is placed, more than 2 minutes remain | 20:00:00 (no change) |
| 19:59:30 | A bid in the final 2 minutes | 20:01:30 |
| 20:01:10 | Another bid in the final 2 minutes | 20:03:10 |
| 20:03:10 | No bids in the final 2 minutes | The auction ends |
The time window is two minutes by default. The listing always shows the current end time and the countdown updates automatically.
Step 3: Buy Now
A Buy Now listing has a fixed price. When you confirm the purchase, the sale is made immediately and you do not have to wait for an auction to end. Some listings have several units: choose the quantity you want. A Buy Now confirmation is binding.
Some auctions offer both bidding and a Buy Now price. By default the Buy Now price disappears when the first bid is placed. The listing tells you whether the Buy Now option is still available, and the exact rules are shown on the listing page.
Step 4: When you win or buy
You receive a confirmation by email and in the Service. After that:
- Contact the seller without delay, within three days at the latest. Agree on shipping and payment. You can see the seller's contact details to the extent needed to complete the sale.
- Pay the seller directly in the agreed way. The payment period is five days unless otherwise agreed.
- The seller ships the cards, or you agree on pickup.
Paying the seller
KorttiMarket does not process payments. You pay the price and shipping costs directly to the seller, for example:
- by bank transfer to the account the seller gave,
- with MobilePay,
- in cash on pickup.
Pay only to the account or number the seller gave and only to the person or company that sold the card. Do not pay as a gift, with a "friends and family" type payment, or in any other way that removes payment protection or the right to a refund, and beware of payment links directed to third parties. Read more: Safe trading.
Step 5: Receiving your cards
If the shipment is tracked, you can follow the parcel. When it arrives:
- Check that the package is intact before opening it. For a valuable purchase, it is worth filming the unboxing.
- Compare the card with the listing: condition, set, language and the grading cert number.
- If something does not match the listing or the package is damaged, contact the seller immediately and keep the packaging and photos. If you cannot agree, tell us: [email protected].
In sales between private persons there is no statutory right of withdrawal, but you may rely on a defect if the item is faulty or wrongly described. When you buy from a business seller, you have, as a consumer, a 14-day right of withdrawal in distance selling. See Terms of Service.
Step 6: Leave feedback
When the sale is complete, you can give the seller 1–5 star feedback and optionally a comment. Feedback helps other buyers, so write honestly and politely. If a problem comes up, contact the seller first, because many things are resolved by talking.
Tips for buyers
- Read the whole description and check the corners, edges and surface in the photos. Ask for more photos if needed.
- Verify the cert number of a graded card on the grading company's website, see Grading guide.
- Include shipping costs in the total price.
- Do not bid more than you are prepared to pay.
- If a listing looks suspicious, report it.
